This responsibility is magnified during a pandemic, where we’ve become accustomed to PPE, social distancing guidelines, and evolving protocols. As part of these current measures, the frequency of cleaning has increased, deep cleans are more routine, and there is a heavier emphasis on disinfection – especially in high-traffic areas. Today we break down everything you need to know about high touch areas to help you keep your buildings and tenants safe. **What Are High Touch Areas?** High-touch areas are specific sections in an area that are frequently touched. These areas, [according to the CDC include](https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/disinfecting-building-facility.html#:~:text=High%20touch%20surfaces%20include%3A,%2C%20faucets%2C%20sinks%2C%20etc.)  “Tables, elevator buttons, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, screens, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.”  **What Is The Significance Of High Touch Areas?** High touch areas are, as the name suggests, frequently touched areas, which means that there is a higher risk of contracting a virus in these areas. As we know, COVID-19 can live on surfaces, and these high touch areas that the CDC described are the spaces that should be disinfected frequently to avoid contamination within your building communities. **How Are High Touch Areas Cleaned?** High touch areas should be cleaned using a disinfectant wipe or any form of disinfectant household cleaner, such as an antimicrobial soap. To find a list of the most common disinfectant products click here. For maximum efficacy, after applying the cleaner, these areas should be left to dry for up to 10 minutes before use. **What Should We Do About High Touch Areas In Our Property Management Community? ** All property managers should include high touch areas in their unit turnovers and common spaces daily cleaning and maintenance checklist. They should also increase the allocated time for cleaning services to include the frequent disinfection of high touch areas multiple times a day. **This is how iRestify can help.** iRestify can support property managers by providing a service expert in charge of cleaning and disinfecting high touch areas in your buildings.
